Hostas come in a wide range of sizes and as you go through our listing you will see a letter in parenthesis after the name which denotes the height of the plant…the ledger below will help to convert this to inches.
Unforgettable
[M] (Kuk) Rounded corrugated green leaves are framed by a variable wide yellow-gold border. Plant is a cross between H. ‘Gold Regal’ and a H. ‘Tokudama’ seedling and has excellent substance. Topped with lavender flowers in early summer
Valley’s Chute-the-Chute
[S] (Linneman) Jeroen Linneman of Holland brings us his first offerings…H. ‘Valley’s Chute-the-Chute is a low growing hosta with nice pointed leaves that are somewhat wavy and lay fairly flat to the ground. Leaves are a wonderful bronze color in spring if the plant gets direct sunlight, so give it a nice sunny location with at least 4 hours of morning sun. Leaves will change to a “Granny Smith” green as the season progresses. Lavender flowers
Valley’s Vanilla Sticks
[S] (Linneman) A sibling to H. ‘Valley’s Chute-the-Chute’, both are H. ‘Kifukurin Ubatake’ seedlings. H. ‘Valley’s Vanilla Sticks’ is a small hosta with light blue leaves of good substance that makes an elegant tight clump. Both the petioles and the flower scapes have an abundance of purple spots. Topped with lavender flowers and will be perfect grown either in a pot or in that featured spot in the garden
Velvet Moon
[L] (Hans Hansen/Naylor Creek Nursery) We think you will like this new sport of H. 'Abiqua Moonbeam' that originally came from Hans Hansen and we are introducing. Thick large dark green leaves have a very wide golden-yellow border...at least 11/2" wide! H. 'Velvet Moon' has a similar growing habit as its parent and same great vigor. Topped with pale lavender flowers in July. Stands out from a distance and will make a nice addition to any garden
Victory
PPAF [VL] (Zilis) Huge new variegated sport of H. nigrescens 'Elatior' from Mark Zilis...very large dark green leaves have a wide creamy-yellow border and are held upright. Topped with pale lavender flowers in July on very tall scapes. Will make an imposing specimen so leave plenty of space
grand new introduction from first timer Ray Wiegand...
**Viking Ship
[VL] (Wiegand) Huge oval to nearly round blue-green leaves
stand upright on this giant of a hosta. The leaves have a glaucous bloom top and
bottom, are lightly corrugated, deeply veined with edges that have light ruffling and
have a tendency to cup upward. This open pollinated seedling of H. ‘Komodo
Dragon’ reached a height of 40” and a width of 55” in its 5th year growing in Ray’s
Ohio garden. Seems to like a little late afternoon sun
**Vulcan
[M/L] (Hansen) This classy sport of 'Captain Kirk' has creamy-white leaves with
dark green margins on a leaf of good substance. Golden-yellow streaks occur along the interior
margins where the white and green overlap. H. 'Vulcan' has a vigorous growth rate for a
white-centered hosta. Pale lavender flowers bloom in mid to late summer
War Paint
[M/L] (Naylor Creek Nursery) Large pointed and pie-crusted leaves emerge in the
spring with a clear bright butter-yellow center surrounded by a dark green margin. The yellow center
holds for a few weeks and then begins to darken…the process is not even and some portions turn
chartreuse and others pale green. By mid June the center fades to a paler green than the margin and
the show is over for the season. Topped with pale violet flowers late in the spring. Good substance
and very vigorous
War Party
[M] (Goodwin) Randy Goodwin brings us a very distinctive new "blue" that's destined to become a classic... grows in an upright manner making a vase-shaped clump that can reach 30". Holds the blue color all season (comparable to H. 'Halcyon as far as longevity of blue wax) and is a vigorous grower. The blade-shaped leaves have great substance and a moderately wavy margin. Happiest in a shady location and topped with lavender flowers
really nice new intro from Bob Axmear…
**Waukon Thin Ice
[M] (Axmear) Bob Axmear of Hosta Library fame is starting
to release some wonderful seedlings. This variegated H. ‘Topaz’ sport is a beauty
with its thick blue leaves that have a greenish-yellow border which becomes yellow
later in the season. The upright clump is a vigorous grower and will be topped with
lavender flowers in midsummer
and another…
**Waukon Water
[M] (Axmear) A really nice open pollinated blue seedling with
thick heart-shaped leaves...good dark color and smooth texture. This very vigorous grower
will be a great addition to the shady garden. Topped with lavender flowers on
branching scapes that are fertile
Will of Fortune
[L] (Asch) Stuart has named this one after one of his grandsons, and it is a play on “Wheel of Fortune”, because the leaves have a beautiful round shape. This H. ‘Ritz’ seedling forms a stately upright blue-green clump with nicely cupped and corrugated leaves. These substantially rigid leaves will hold rainwater throughout the day. H. ‘Will of Fortune grows to 46” tall and will be topped with pale white flowers in mid July. Truly a nice addition to the garden
Winter Snow
[L] (NR) Sport of H. 'Sum and Substance'...beautiful shiny medium green leaves have a nice white border of decent width and the clump is topped with lavender flowers midsummer
Wintergreen
M] (Dishon) Very nice hosta with green leaves framed by a wide creamy-white margin. Good substance and vigorous grower topped with lavender flowers in late spring
**Xanadu
[S] (Malloy) This is probably a tetraploid of H. ‘Island Charm’...better substance and more vigor. Small pointed leaves
have a wide green border and are topped with lavender flowers
Yellow Submarine
[mini] (O’Harra) Cute gold dwarf with elongated, undulating leaves that create a tight little mound. Leaves
are very bright and have a nice sheen. Topped with lavender flowers midsummer
YIN
[S] (S. Wilkins, J. Wilkins) Small, perfectly heart-shaped, dark blue leaves are framed with a wide creamy-white margin and have excellent substance. Light lavender flowers in July. A truly beautiful little hosta that makes a perfect specimen with many great attributes
