Hostas come in a wide range of sizes and as you go through our listing you will see a letter in parenthesis after the name which denotes the height of the plant…the ledger below will help to convert this to inches.
Hadspen Blue
[M] (Smith/Aden) TF2x7 Low-growing clump with rounded blue-green leaves of
good substance…one of the “bluest” and topped with pale lavender flowers in July.
Halcyon
[M] (Smith/BHHS) TF1x7 One of the best medium-sized “blues”…makes a wonderful clump. Blue leaves are flat with
prominent veins and heavy substance. Topped with lavender flowers midsummer.
Half and Half
[M] (Naylor Creek Nursery) Sport of H. ‘Lakeside Cupcake’, the difference
being that ‘Half and Half’ emerges with a pure white center that remains throughout the
season. Thick leaves have a very dark green border and show a third light green color where
there is overlap. The clump is low growing and many of the leaves twist at the end of the
petioles creating a more disorganized look. Lavender flowers on a vigorous grower.
Hanky Panky PP16217
[S/M] (Hans Hansen) Sport of H. ‘Striptease’…leaf emerges with a dark
green center surrounded by a wide light dusty-green margin with dark green veins and the typical
white H. ‘Striptease’ pattern. Later in the season the leaf changes to a creamy-yellow center
surrounded by a darker green pattern that replaces the white ‘Striptease’ pattern and there is also a
concentration of green near the leaf tip. The margin changes to creamy-white. The dense clump is
topped with pale lavender flowers in July.
Harry van de Laar
[M] (Cees Visser) A seedling that comes from H. longipes hypoglauca
x H. ‘Maruba Iwa’...leaves are grayish-green with white backs and held on red petioles which
goes up into the leaves. Topped with lilac flowers in later summer. Good substance on a medium
sized clump. Really a very nice plant.
Heat Wave
[M] (Jan van den Top) Fantastic sport from H. ‘Bright Lights’…thick leather-like
leaves have a chartreuse-yellow center surrounded by a very wide blue-green border. Vigorous
plant that holds well throughout and to the very end of the season. Topped with lavender flowers
midsummer and can take quite a bit of sun. A great addition!
Hi Ho Silver
[S] (Walters Gardens) Lance-shaped leaves with some ruffling on this wide white margined sport of H. ‘Ginko
Craig…makes a small clump and maintains that “cute” look. Flowers are dark purple.
Hideout
[mini] (Jones) Sport from H. ‘Hidden Cove’...very curly, narrow dark green leaves have a
white center and give the appearance of being in constant motion. Shows good vigor and does best in
lots of morning sun. Lavender flowers in July.

High Society
[S] (Hansen/Shady Oaks) A striking sport from H. ‘June’…leaves emerge in spring with
a warm yellow center that brightens to white by midsummer. A variable wide blue margin surrounds the
center and shows some streaking. Superior substance and clump is topped with pale lavender flowers.
Proven to be a slow grower but is well worth the wait.
High Tide
[S/M] (Hansen) Nice compact clump of frost heart-shaped blue-green leaves. Lavender flowers appear above the
clump in late summer. Good for the front of a shady border.
**Hippodrome
[M] (Malloy) H. ‘Halcyon’ x H. ‘Christmas Tree’ hybrid that shows the best of
both parents...thick, round blue-green leaves have a yellow border that turns creamy-white and is
topped with pale lavender flowers. Great substance.
Holy Mouse Ears
[S] (Deckert) Another superb sport from H. ‘Blue
Mouse Ears’...thick leaves have a white center surrounded by a blue-green
border that does quite a bit of streaking to the center. Topped with lavender
flowers. Plants are small but grow very well.
Hush Puppy
[S] (Avent) This little guy literally grows like a weed! A H. venusta hybrid that has small, heart-shaped gray-green
leaves with a creamy-white margin. Size and rapid growth rate make it suitable for edging the border
or growing in a container. Clump is topped with dark lavender flowers in early summer.
Hyuga Urajiro
[S] (Japan) We have been excited about this plant since we first saw it…this
kikutii has long, narrow frosty blue leaves with yellow streaks and the undersides are a metallic
silver color. Hyuga is the place the plant was found and Urajiro means white back.
Ice Follies (PPAF)
[M] (Meyer) We are very pleased to be offering this really nice sport
of H. ‘Antioch’ from Bill Meyer. Dark green leaves have a really wide creamy border that
turns quite white by summer. Needs to be located in bright morning light but avoid any hot
afternoon sun. Dense clump will be topped with lavender flowers……(limited)
**Inca Gold
[S] (Chrystal) Little known small gold from Great
Britain....shiny lanceolate leaves radiate in an upright fashion and are
topped with lavender flowers.
Inniswood
[L] (Inniswood Metro Gardens) Rounded green-gold (almost yellow) leaves have a dark green margin and are slightly
cupped. A plant with excellent substance and near-white flowers.
you won’t want to miss this one!! **Irish Luck
[L] (LaLonde) We are more than excited about this
stunning plant from Irene LaLonde of Washington State...open
pollinated seedling from H. ‘Invincible’ makes a medium-sized
vase-shaped clump of very SHINY (on top and underneath) and very
dark green leaves with deeply impressed veins and rippled edges.
Leaf substance is outstanding and fragrant lavender flowers come in late summer.
Ivory Coast
[M] (Savory) A smaller sport of H. ‘Sagae’...grey-green leaves have a wide rippled yellow border in spring that later
turns to ivory. Great substance and topped with lavender flowers.
**Jack of Diamonds
[M] (Savory) Dark blue-green leaves have a very wide yellow border and are nice corrugated. Good
substance and topped with lavender flowers...nice plant!
Jason and Katie
[M] (Hatfield) Sport of H. ‘Christmas Gold’…dark green leaves are very round and surrounded by a bright
yellow border. Tremendous substance and lavender flowers.
Jaws
[S] (Scheer) Don’t let the small size fool you! This is one tough plant.
H. ‘Jaws’ has teeth that can bite. Deep green intensely serrated and undulating
leaves thick enough to rustle and scratch if you brush against them. A fast
growing, dense clump that calls out to be man-handled. Don’t worry, it can
take it! Grows fine and looks good in full sun but to show-case the darkest
green it appreciates a bit of shade.
Jewel of the Nile
[M] (Walek) Unique and appealing color combination…leaves have blue centers surrounded by an irregular
golden-yellow border with some streaking. Superior substance and clump is topped with pale lavender flowers in June.
Journey’s End PP16895
[L] (Hans Hansen) Another great introduction from Hans Hansen
and he says one of his favorites…sport of H. ‘Choo Choo Train’ with heart-shaped yellowgold
leaves framed by a wide dark green border with a ruffled edge. Best grown in morning
sun or lots of filtered light. Topped with pale lavender flowers.
Julie Morss
[M] (Morss) Leaves have light gold centers (almost bright yellow) with chartreuse and green borders in the spring
and fade to pale green in summer…lavender flowers.
June
[M] (NEO Plants) One of the best hostas on the market…sport of H. ‘Halcyon’, leaves have bright gold to yellow centers
with wide blue margins. Superior substance, when all the other hostas have gone down in
fall you will still find H. ‘June’ looking good. Lavender flowers in late July.
June Fever PP15340
[M] (Jan van den Top) Sport from H. ‘June’…this flashy plant
comes up in the spring with a bright yellow (becomes orangish) leaf center surrounded by
a thin blue-green border. There is no grayish wax (bloom) on the leaves so the finish is
shiny. The color holds until about the end of June and then begins to darken slowly until
it becomes chartreuse. H. ‘June Fever’ has all the same great attributes as its parent—
good substance, vigorous growth habit and the ability to outlast most other hostas well
into fall. Topped with bluish lavender flowers midsummer.
Jurassic Park
[VL] (Lysne) This one fits into the “giant” category and can form a clump of huge green leaves reaching 8’
across and 3’+ tall. The magnificent leaves will achieve 14” x 16” and are heavily puckered and corrugated making them almost
indestructible. More than vigorous and topped with pale lavender flowers this super hosta can also take lots of sun, at least a full
morning, and even more if given adequate moisture……(offering 2nd yr tissue-cultured plants with good roots and growing well).
brand new introduction from Jan Van den Top… **Justine
[M] (Van den Top) Jan brings us the tetraploid of H. ‘June Fever’...H.
‘Justine has all the same wonderful traits as the parent but its even better! Nice thick,
shiny yellow leaves have a wide green border and make a medium-sized clump. If located
in a sunny spot the leaves will stay yellow all season and if planted in the shade they will
change to a green center. Lavender flowers.
